Ukraine is counting on increased US military and financial support under a new strategic co-operation agreement.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed confidence that Ukraine will be able to receive the required number of air defence systems under a new agreement with the USA on cooperation in the mining sector. This was reported by Interfax-Ukraine.

In addition, the head of state noted that thanks to the Investment Fund provided for in this agreement, Kiev can count on assistance from the United States in the amount of up to $ 30 billion already in 2025.

We are ready for our contribution to this partnership to include air defence systems. I have voiced specific needs, and President Trump has promised that this will be considered. This is not a question of free transfer - it is a procurement issue. We want to get access to US weapons, as well as to secure agreements on sanctions, air defence, mineral agreement and ceasefire," Zelensky told reporters.

He also recalled that the US Congress has already approved a $15 billion military aid package for Ukraine. Another 15 billion is envisaged for 2026.

Now the possibility of moving these funds to 2025 is being discussed, so that Ukraine could receive weapons totalling 30 billion over the next few months. This would be an American contribution, and we, for our part, will start repaying our part in stages. A corresponding agreement has already been reached," he added.
