Air Force confirms shooting down Russian KINZHAL
The Air Force confirmed the shooting down of the Dinkhal during a night attack on Kiev Region.
The commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Mykola Oleshchuk, has made this announcement.
I congratulate the Ukrainian people on this historic event! Yes, we shot down the "unparalleled" Dagger! Patriot💪, he stressed.
It happened during a night attack on May 4 in the skies of the Kiev region. The X-47 missile was fired by a MiG-31K from Russian territory.
There is no need to run, as they say in Ukraine: ahead of the foe in the furnace, in advance to make public the information that can be used by the enemy! We will definitely report what, where, with what, and when it was shot down! All in good time," stressed the commander of the Air Forces.
The technical characteristics of the Kinnzhal missile are as follows:
- Speed: The missile can reach speeds of up to Mach 10 (12,350 km/h).
- Warheads: The Dagger can carry both conventional and nuclear warheads with a payload up to 480 kg, as well as a thermonuclear version with a 10-50 kt warhead.
- Range: The missile has a range of 1,500-2,000 km.
- Dimensions: The length of the Kinnzhal missile is 8 m, the body diameter is 1 m, and the launch weight is approximately 4,300 kg.
- Launch: It is designed to be launched from MiG-31 fighters at an altitude of about 18 kilometres (59,000 ft).
- Manoeuvrability: This missile manoeuvres through all phases of flight to overcome air defences.
Due to its high speed, range and manoeuvrability, the Dagger missile is a difficult target for air defence systems, but Patriot SAMs, are capable of shooting down such targets.
