Investigations into cases of missing persons in Ukraine will last for years, even after hostilities have ceased.

The director of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP), Matthew Holliday, told Reuters. He said

The main thing now is to take all necessary measures to ensure that as many people as possible are identified. The vast majority of the missing and dead are victims of war crimes, so those responsible must be brought to justice

Holliday also believes that the figure of 15,000 is conservative. After all, in Mariupol alone, the Ukrainian authorities estimate that 25,000 people have been killed or are missing.

Furthermore, in his opinion, the investigation into cases of missing people in Ukraine will last for years, even after the hostilities have ceased.
