- Only every 50th case of mental disorders is diagnosed in Ukraine

Ukrainians rarely consult psychiatrists and psychotherapists for fear of stigmatisation or lack of knowledge, believing that "nothing serious is happening to them".
This is evidenced by the results of a study of the British company Alligators Digital, conducted in August 2023 on behalf of the Third Summit of FirstLadies and Gentlemen (Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen). This is reported by the MOH of Ukraine.
It is reported that now 10 000 doctors (psychiatrists, psychologists, psychotherapists, narcologists, therapists, paediatricians, general practitioners, etc.) in almost 1500 medical institutions in Ukraine provide psychological and/or psychiatric care.
At the same time, more than 670 primary medical centres already provide basic psychological services under the contract signed with the NHSU for the package "Support and treatment of adults and children with mental disorders at the primary level of medical care", which was introduced at the end of last year.
Under this package, the patient (adult or child) can receive early diagnosis and basic psychological care free of charge. As part of the said package, a family doctor, paediatrician or therapist can:
- carry out an assessment of the patient's mental state,
- provide medical and psychological care to patients with mental disorders,
- provide pharmacological and psychosocial interventions, including short-term psychological help, and so on.
You can find your nearest mental health care provider on the interactive map of mental healthand psychiatric care providers.
If you can't use the map, call the NHSU Contact Centre at 16-77 or the Ministry of Health Contact Centre at 0-800-60-20-19.
