The United States test-fired the Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile.

This was reported on 6 September by the press service of the Vandenberg base of the US Space Force.

An operational test launch of an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile was conducted from Vandenberg Space Force Base on Wednesday, 6 September, at 1:26 a.m. Pacific Time.

The purpose of the intercontinental ballistic missile test launch programme is to test the safety, security, effectiveness and readiness of the weapon system.

These test launches demonstrate the readiness of U.S. nuclear forces and instill confidence in the lethality and effectiveness of the nation's nuclear deterrent," said Col. Brian Titus.

Col. Brian Titus, deputy commander of the Delta 30 spacecraft, made the launch decision.
