NATO suggests that Ukraine may join NATO in exchange for territories

NATO Chief of Staff Stian Jensen has suggested that Ukraine could gain NATO membership in exchange for handing over some territory to Russian Federation, and that this could be part of ending the war in Ukraine.
This was reported by the Norwegian publication Verdens Gang on Tuesday, 15 August.
I think that the solution might be for Ukraine to give up territory and get NATO membership in return," Jenssen said during a panel debate in Arendal.
Stian Jenssen is reportedly NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg's chief of staff in Brussels. Stoltenberg himself did not wish to discuss possible solutions for Ukraine after the Russian invasion.
The publication reports that the NATO secretary-general has repeatedly said that the timing and terms of any negotiations with Russia on ending the occupation should be decided by Ukraine.
When asked by VG whether NATO believes that Ukraine should cede land to achieve peace with Russia and future NATO membership, Jenssen pointed out that "discussions about possible status after the war are already underway and that questions about ceding territory to Russia are being raised by others."
I'm not saying it has to be that way. But it could be a possible solution," Jenssen replied.
