The Ministry of Defense told how many women serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine

At the beginning of the war, women in the army faced certain problems. In particular, not all military professions could attract women.
More than 38,000 women serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 7,000 of them joined the army after the start of a full-scale war. This was announced by Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar at the Second Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen, which took place in Kiev.
There are also civilian women who work in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. That is, there are more than 50 thousand women in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. By numbers, Ukraine has one of the highest numbers of women in the Armed Forces among NATO member countries ,” she says.
According to the Deputy Minister, there were two surges in the increase in the number of women in the army in Ukraine: in 2014 and in 2022.
The Deputy Minister noted that there are tankers, artillerymen and even a unique deep-sea military diving instructor in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Anna Malyar assured that the Ministry of Defense "took a direct course" to make the service of women in the Armed Forces of Ukraine as comfortable as possible.
Malyar also added that since 2014, not a single woman has been forcibly mobilized for military service.
From February 24 to the present day, we have mobilized about 1,000 women - these are those who voluntarily came and expressed their desire to mobilize, - said Anna Malyar, Deputy Minister of Defense.
