Five stations of the Kyiv metro will receive new names

At the same time, the opinion of the inhabitants of the city was taken into account.



The Kiev City Council has registered a draft decision to rename five metro stations in the capital, whose names are associated with the Russian Federation or its allies. The corresponding document was published on the Kyiv City Council website.

In particular, it is planned to rename: Beresteiska to Buchanska station, Lev Tolstoy Square to Vasily Stus station, Heroiv Dnepr station to Heroiv Ukrainy station, Minska station to Varshavska station, "Friendship of Peoples" to the station "Botanicheskaya".

As noted in the explanatory note, 170,646 users expressed their position in the rating electronic voting on the proposed names for metro stations.

The implementation of the project provides for financing at the expense of the budget of Kyiv. The estimated cost of renaming one station is UAH 2,302,000. This includes costs, in particular, for the replacement of text content, the name of the station that will be located on the track walls and at the entrances / exits, general diagrams, linear diagrams.

The adoption of the decision will contribute to the democratization of Ukrainian society. It will allow to rename the stations of the Kyiv metro in order to popularize the outstanding facts of the history of Ukraine, the formation of the historical consciousness of the Ukrainian people, the explanatory note says.

The metro is currently operating in transportation mode from 06.30 to 22.00. The approximate interval of trains on all lines is 10-15 minutes, during peak hours the interval between trains is 5-7 minutes.

Also, from May 16, 2022, travel to the Kyiv metro became paid. One ticket costs 8 hryvnia.

Underground stations will continue to receive people around the clock as shelters.
