A tourist died after being attacked by a shark off Hurghada.



A tourist from Austria was attacked by a shark in the Egyptian resort of Hurghada, as a result of which she lost an arm and a leg. This was reported to RIA Novosti at the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Hurghada.

A tourist suffered a shark bite in the Sahl Hasheesh area, the shark bit off her arm and leg, the report said.

In connection with the incident, swimming, diving, snorkeling and fishing from the Sahl Hasheesh area to Makadi Bay are prohibited for three days from Friday.

The Telegram channel "Caution, news", citing eyewitnesses of the incident, said that a large accumulation of fish could have attracted the shark.

According to statistics, Egypt is in 12th place among countries around the world in terms of the number of shark attacks on travelers. If we consider the last ten years, during this period, approximately 104 million travelers rested in Egyptian resorts. Of all this number in Egypt, sharks attacked only 12 people, and only three died as a result of the attack.

For all the time near Hurghada, only a few cases of shark attacks on swimming tourists were recorded. However, these dangerous cases occurred in places not allowed for swimming.
