Ukrainian refugees may be left without housing and work in a European country

Ukrainian refugees in the UK are at risk of homelessness and joblessness due to uncertainty over visa extensions under the Ukraine Scheme.
According to The Telegraph, when three-year visas expire, thousands of Ukrainians have found themselves in limbo as they struggle to prove their right to stay in the country. This has become a serious obstacle to extending rents, signing new contracts and even provoked an increase in rental rates.
Since February, a new visa extension scheme for Ukrainians has been in force in Britain - you can apply for an 18-month extension. However, consideration of such applications takes up to eight weeks, which has already caused a wave of problems. Some tenants have been refused extensions, and in some cases landlords have taken advantage of the situation to increase the cost of accommodation several times or demand payment in advance.
According to the results of a survey by the University of Birmingham, 26% of Ukrainians have faced refusal to renew their leases, and 24% were unable to conclude new contracts. Experts believe that such situations could be avoided by automatic visa renewal, but the final decision on this issue has not been made yet.
Meanwhile, the analytical centre of the international employment company Gremi Personal presented the data of the research on the level of Polish language skills among Ukrainians in Poland. It turned out that the pace of language learning was slower than experts expected. Now about 40% of Ukrainians know Polish. Almost half of them - 48% - spent from one to two years to learn it, 41% mastered the language in less than a year, and 11% continued to learn it from two to three years. Despite this, the overall level of language proficiency among Ukrainians remains mostly average or low. Read more about it in the article by Socialportal.
