Ukraine liberated about 253 square kilometers of territory - ISW

Since the beginning of the counter-offensive, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have liberated 253 square kilometres of territory.
This was stated in a 10 July report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Since the start of the Ukrainian counter-offensive on 4 June, ISW has calculated on the basis of its own terrain data that Ukrainian forces have recaptured approximately 253 square kilometres of territory," the report said.
ISW notes that Ukraine has liberated as much territory in five weeks as the Russian invaders captured in six months.
According to the Institute for the Study of War, the AFU conducted counter-offensives in the following areas:
- Bakhmutsky;
- Berdyansk (western parts of the Donetsk-Eastern Zaporozhye region);
- Melitopol (western parts of Zaporizhzhya Oblast).
Earlier, the Commander of the AFU Ground Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi reported that the AFU has success in the Bakhmut direction and takes the city under fire control. However, the enemy continues to shell civilians. On 10 July the Russians shelled Orekhov in Zaporizhzhya region during the evacuation of the population, according to preliminary data seven people were killed. Also, due to constant shelling, it was decided to evacuate local residents from the 5-kilometre border zone of Sumy region. It should be noted that the evacuation is voluntary.
