The Academy of Motion Picture Arts will restore the victory scene of the film "20 Days in Mariupol" in an abridged version of the Academy Awards ceremony.

The American Academy of Motion Picture Arts will re-release the international television version of the Oscar ceremony, which excluded the awarding of the Ukrainian documentary 20 Days in Mariupol. This was reported by Deadline on 14 March.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences plans to revise the 90-minute version of the Oscar broadcast it provided to international licensees to restore a key moment that was excluded from the original package: the win in the Best Documentary Feature category for the film "20 Days in Mariupol" about the war in Ukraine.

The move came after Suspilne TV, which owns the rights to broadcast the Oscars ceremony in Ukraine, protested against the exclusion of this nomination from the 90-minute version, saying it was "shocked and deeply disappointed" by the decision, which left a moving speech by Ukrainian director Mstislav Chernov "left on the editing room floor," the report said.

In the speech, Chernov expressed sorrow for the tragic civilian casualties caused by the Russian invasion and called on the film community to make sure that "history is corrected, that truth prevails, and that the residents of Mariupol and those who gave their lives are never forgotten."

At last year's Oscars, the 90-minute cut version included a Best Documentary nomination, which went to Navalny, a film about jailed Russian opposition activist Alexei Navalny.
