In early August, Donald Trump had already threatened to impose tough sanctions on Russia to force the ways to stop the war against Ukraine.

US President Donald Trump said that he is ready to impose sanctions against Russia, but only if NATO countries stop buying Russian oil and impose similar restrictions. He wrote about this in his social network Truesocial.

According to the American leader, the purchase of Russian oil by individual countries of the Alliance "simply shocked" and significantly weakened the position of the West in negotiations and pressure on Moscow.

In any case, I'm ready to start when you are ready. I believe that if NATO imposes 50-100 per cent tariffs against China after the war between Russia and Ukraine is over, it will also be a powerful step to end this deadly but pointless war," Trump emphasised.

He added that China "maintains a tight grip on Russia," and only tough tariffs can break this dependence.

It should be noted that US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent at an extraordinary meeting of the G7 supported Trump's position and said that the allies should impose tariffs against countries that continue to buy Russian oil. In addition, the statement of the US Ministry of Finance emphasises that Washington and its partners are ready to study the mechanisms of using Russian assets to strengthen the military potential of Ukraine.

Recall, in early August, Donald Trump threatened to impose tough sanctions against Russia to force the ways to stop the war against Ukraine. First he set a deadline - 8 August - and later abandoned this deadline after Putin agreed to a face-to-face meeting.

And after the Alaska talks, the US president announced that he had decided to refrain from imposing additional sanctions or other "serious consequences" against Russia.

After that, he repeatedly threatened Moscow with further sanctions but refrained from them while continuing peace talks.
