US President Donald Trump has announced "good news" about the end of the war in Ukraine.

He said this, according to the European Pravda website, while speaking to journalists at the White House.

The US President said that things with regard to Russia and Ukraine were "going well".

We've settled eight wars, and I think we're doing well with Ukraine and Russia. This is the first time I'm saying that, you know, I think we may have some good news," the US leader said.

Trump spoke about his call to Russian ruler Vladimir Putin, during which the US president asked him not to shell Ukrainian cities for a week.

The White House chief said he told Putin about the wave of cold weather in Ukraine.

I called President Putin and he agreed ... And Ukraine is a very cold country, it's much colder there than we are, it's colder there than they say the average Canadian or even colder, and on top of that, they have a huge cold wave," Trump said.

According to the US president, Putin agreed to stop the missile attacks for "a week".

And I asked him if he could stop the shelling for a week so the missiles wouldn't fly at Kiev or other cities, and he agreed to do that, so that's something," he added.

on 29 January, Trump said he had received Putin's agreement not to hit Kiev "and other cities" for a week - without specifying at what point the countdown was to begin.

The Kremlin said it was allegedly talking about a deadline of 1 February.

For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that there were no direct agreements between Kiev and Moscow on the cessation of Russian strikes on the Ukrainian energy sector, but talks about it were ongoing, including in Abu Dhabi; he also emphasised that Ukraine would act in a mirror-like manner towards Russian actions.
