Ukrainian human rights defender and serviceman Butkevich is in a colony in the occupied part of Luhansk region after being "sentenced" by the occupants.
Human rights defender and serviceman Maksym Butkevich is in a colony in Krasnyy Luch in the occupied territory of Luhansk Region. This was reported by the Ґрати newspaper.
The newspaper was told about Butkevich's whereabouts by his lawyer Leonid Solovyev, who received a reply from the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service.
Maksim Butkevich was taken into Russian captivity in June 2022 in Luhansk region. The occupiers accused him of allegedly mistreating civilians and using prohibited methods of warfare. Allegedly, on 4 June Butkevich fired a grenade launcher at an apartment building in Severodonetsk.
Butkevich was forced to admit guilt. However, the "Ґrati" found out that on the day of the shelling he was not at the front, and until 14 June he was in the Kiev region," the report says.
"The "court" in occupied Luhansk sentenced Butkevich to 13 years in prison. After an appeal on 23 August, the term was confirmed. Butkevich's whereabouts remained unknown after that.
The lawyer sent a request to the FSIN, and only now received a reply.
