The lessons of history must be learnt and Europe must show determination in supporting Ukraine to avoid repeating the tragic mistakes of the past, Callas emphasised.

A worrying situation is developing in Europe, which is reminiscent of the events of 1938, when Czechoslovakia asked for help in confronting Nazi Germany, but received no support and found itself in the hands of the aggressor. This opinion was expressed by the head of EU diplomacy Kaja Kallas in an interview with the German edition of Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland.

We have a situation that is reminiscent of 1938. Czechoslovakia asked for help in the fight against Nazi Germany, did not receive it and fell into the hands of the Nazis. The difference today is that if Ukraine falls, the security of the whole of Europe is at risk. We must show that we have learnt the lesson of history," Callas stressed.

The diplomat warned against any territorial negotiations with Russia, calling them a trap. According to her, Russian diplomatic tactics are based on three stages: first, Moscow makes demands for something that never belonged to it, then resorts to ultimatums and threats, and in the end, the West finds political forces willing to concede to the Kremlin exactly what it originally did not have. As a result, Kallas emphasised, Russia is getting more than it could have dreamed of.

Is it a compromise, if before it was put forward knowingly excessive demands? - questioned the head of European diplomacy.

She noted that at the moment Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is claiming rights to Ukrainian regions that he does not even control.

Kallas noted that the EU is working on the 19th package of sanctions aimed at increasing pressure on Moscow.

There are a lot of creative solutions on the table," she said without revealing details.
