- Occupants are going to hold "elections for Putin" in the temporarily occupied territories

Russian elections in the temporarily occupied territories are as much a farce as pseudo-referendums. Their purpose is not to express the will, but to force the occupied population to engage in "rituals" to legitimise the occupation.
Russia's Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has decided to hold the presidential election in the "territories of new subjects" - the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. This was reported by the Russian mass media.
After consultations with the Federal Security Service and the Russian Defence Ministry, the Central Electoral Commission has decided to hold the presidential election on the territories of new subjects, the reports said.
The day before, the Russian Central Election Commission officially allowed the use of "additional forms of voting" in the occupied territories where martial law is in effect.
The occupation authorities in the temporarily occupied part of the Luhansk region said that "the LNR electoral system is ready to hold Russian presidential elections."
The so-called Russian elections in the VOT are as much a farce as pseudo-referendums. Their purpose is not to express the will, but to force the occupied population to "rituals" to legitimise the occupation," the Ukrainian Justice Ministry said.
We will remind, the current term of Putin as President of the Russian Federation ends on 7 May 2024. The next presidential election is scheduled in Russia for 17 March and for the first time it will last three days.
