The American leader has announced his own meeting with the Kremlin chief in Hungary within a fortnight.

Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump may meet in Budapest in the coming weeks. But the Russian dictator's path to the Hungarian capital - may take a very skewed trajectory. This is reported by the portal AirLive.

Because of the EU airspace closed to Russian aircraft, Putin's plane is likely to make a big detour through Turkey and land from the south," the publication writes.

It is noted that after the imposition of European sanctions, Russian government aircraft, including Putin's Il-96, are prevented from flying over most EU countries. This forces the Kremlin to look for workarounds.

Putin's route to Hungary would bypass almost all EU member states, even though Hungary itself belongs to the bloc," the report said.

Such a route will lengthen the flight almost three times - instead of the direct 1,500 kilometres, the plane will have to cover about 5,000 kilometres. The time in the air will increase by about 3 hours, and co-operation with Turkish and Serbian air traffic control services will require additional efforts.

Difficulties due to weather conditions and diplomatic nuances cannot be ruled out," the publication admits.

In addition, security experts warn that flights over the Black Sea remain risky due to military activity in the region.

This is not the first time Russian officials have had to find clever routes to circumvent Western restrictions - detours through Central Asia, the Middle East and the Balkans have become commonplace since 2022.

On Thursday, 16 October, Trump had a two-hour phone conversation with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

Following the conversation, the White House chief announced a new summit with the Kremlin chief to be held over the next fortnight in Budapest. The leaders will discuss ways to end the war in Ukraine.
