The Kremlin commented on the audio recording in which Trump threatened to destroy Moscow
According to journalists, Trump threatened Putin during the phone call.
Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that he could not confirm the reality of Donald Trump's words that he allegedly threatened Russian leader Vladimir Putin to bomb Moscow if Russia invaded Ukraine. This is reported by Newsweek.
Earlier, CNN published an audio recording in which Trump, as a candidate for the US presidency, at a closed-door meeting with donors in 2024, claims that he allegedly threatened Putin to destroy Moscow if Russia launches aggression against Ukraine. Peskov insists there were no official conversations between Putin and Trump at the time.
There were no phone conversations at that point. As far as I understand, we are talking about the period when Trump was not yet the US president," Peskov said.
Note that although the audio recording dates back to last year, the exact time of the conversation under discussion remains unclear.
In the published audio recording, Trump boasted that he warned Putin: "If you invade Ukraine, I will bomb Moscow to the ground."
Peskov expressed doubts about the authenticity of the recording, saying, "Whether it's a fake or not, we don't know. There are a lot of fakes now, and there is much more of them than true information. We always take this into account when analysing news."
In November 2024, the Kremlin denied The Washington Post's reports about Putin's phone conversation with Trump after the US election, but many analysts said that the conversation did take place.
