Putin is disappointed that he couldn't sway Trump to his side.

The disruption of the Budapest summit was the result of growing mutual frustration between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump. According to the Financial Times, citing informed sources, the former "chemistry" between the two leaders has finally evaporated.

According to the publication, American officials were shocked by the rigidity of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Thus, during a meeting with Senator Marco Rubio in New York, he repeated the mantra about "Nazis" in Ukraine, and then, in a telephone conversation in October, actually repeated these statements - which put an end to the preparation of the Budapest summit.

Lavrov is tired and as if he thinks he has more important things to do than talk to the US - even if Putin demands otherwise," the FT quoted a source as saying.

According to the newspaper's interlocutors, Trump is irritated by Putin's habit of bragging about "successes" on the front, which Washington considers imaginary.

However, the Kremlin too, according to the FT, does not hide its disappointment with Washington. Former US National Intelligence Council analyst Peter Schroeder says: Putin can't get Trump to accept his logic and change policy and it's pissing him off.

The turning point in the politicians' communication was the Alaska summit: then Trump allegedly supported the idea of a "comprehensive peace agreement", but soon returned to the position of an immediate ceasefire.

When they only demand a ceasefire and then say let history judge - that's a radical turnaround. Europe is essentially twisting the arms of this administration," Lavrov complained in a recent interview.
