The European Commission is concerned about the growing number of Russians in the EU due to Hungary and Serbia

The EU has expressed growing concern over simplified procedures for Russians to access EU countries via Hungary and Serbia.
The European Commission is sounding the alarm: Hungary and Serbia are actively simplifying access to the EU for Russians, which raises concerns about the security of the bloc, Radio Liberty reports.
Thus, representatives of the Commission note that Hungary continues to issue Russian citizens with national cards and work permits under a simplified procedure introduced in the summer of 2022. According to Markus Lamert, the situation is under constant monitoring, and Russian aggression against Ukraine remains a threat to the security of the EU.
At the same time, the European Commission urges Serbia to check more thoroughly the applications of Russians for citizenship.
Despite the fact that the country is not a member of the EU, its citizens have visa-free access to the Schengen area," the EC said.
Since 2022, Serbia has granted more than 200 citizenships to Russians "for services to the country", among them politicians and employees of the military industry, including the production of nuclear weapons. The Commission's report notes that such practices pose potential risks to the security of the European Union.
