Szijjártó explains to Zelenski why Hungary is against Ukraine's EU accession

Hungary has refused to support Ukraine's accession to the EU.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó has confirmed that Budapest does not want to see Kiev in the EU and said that Budapest's position in this case "is not dictated from outside". He published his statement on platform X, emphasising that Hungary's position will remain unchanged.
In particular, the head of Hungarian diplomacy reacted to Zelensky's remarks after a meeting with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo, where the Ukrainian president was surprised by Hungary's refusal to support Ukraine's EU membership, noting that "even Russia is not against it."
Zelensky again assesses the situation by his own standards. Unlike him, Hungary is guided only by the interests of its people. We don't care what Moscow thinks," Szijjártó said.
According to him, Hungarians fear that Ukraine's accession to the EU will destroy their farmers, the labour market and the country's security. The minister emphasised: "No matter how Zelensky points out Russia's influence, Hungary will not support Ukraine's accession to the EU."
We would like to point out that Lithuania proposed to start negotiations on Ukraine's membership in the European Union without Hungary's participation in order to bypass Budapest's veto.
