According to Syrskyy, the main task was to disrupt the Russian army's plans to attack Kharkiv and Sumy, as well as to relieve pressure from other parts of the front. For this purpose, the Ukrainian armed forces chose a direction where the enemy had weak defences.

The commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, General Oleksandr Syrskyy, has described the AFU operation in Kursk Region as successful, stressing that it achieved its goals due to the effect of surprise. In an interview with Le Monde, the general spoke about the key motives and objectives of the operation.

We had no choice. I had to simultaneously disrupt the offensive on Kharkiv, reduce pressure on all fronts and prevent the opening of a new front on Sumy. Therefore, I decided to attack where the enemy was most vulnerable, using relatively few troops," the general explained.

Syrskyy noted that the operation weakened Russia's offensive potential and reduced the intensity of attacks in key areas, with the exception of some areas such as Pokrovsk and Kurakhovo.

Ukrainian troops, he said, effectively used the surprise effect and the minimal number of forces involved, which allowed them to disrupt the enemy's plans and avoid significant losses.

Despite the success, Syrskyy emphasised the need to prepare reserves for the battles in the Kursk direction. Ukrainian troops continue to destroy superior enemy forces in the region, but the situation remains difficult.

Earlier it was reported that Russian troops recaptured half of the territories captured by the AFU in the Kursk region after reinforcing the Russian Armed Forces units. However, the AFU operation had a significant impact on the enemy's plans, forcing it to redistribute its forces. The Kursk operation was an example of successful application of tactical thinking, minimal resources and strategic surprise, which allowed the AFU to effectively counter Russian aggression in this direction.
