Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Germany have stepped up police protection for Jewish communities following Hamas' attack on Israel and declaration of war

This is reported by Politico.

European governments fear an increase in anti-Semitic acts due to the unfolding fighting between Israel and the Iranian-backed Hamas group in Gaza.

In particular, London police added that events in Israel could lead to protests in the coming days.

'We will ensure that an appropriate policing plan is in place to balance the right to protest and ensure that the peace of Londoners is not disrupted,' the police said in a statement.

French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin the day before asked prefects across the country to step up security for Jewish communities and announced a meeting to assess the situation. He added that so far no security threats have been observed by the French Interior Ministry.

Berlin police said they had stepped up security measures at Jewish and Israeli institutions following the Hamas attacks. The Central Council of Jews in Germany wrote that they are "in intensive contact" with the authorities.

This includes the following: no violence, no riots and no hatred on German streets," the council said in a statement.

Similar protections for Jewish communities have been adopted in Spain and Italy, among others.
