Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the police have received 1,214 reports of missing children. In addition, about a hundred minors are still on the wanted list, Daria Gerasimchuk, adviser-authorized representative of the President of Ukraine for children's rights and children's rehabilitation, said on May 13 during a briefing. "Ukrainian media center".

She stressed that the figure is not final, since it is not yet known how many Ukrainian children were deported to Russia. The authorities suggest that there are about 2.5 thousand of them.

If we hear that Russia says that it is evacuating children from dangerous areas, then such a child must be immediately returned with the appropriate documents. And since no one is going to return them, we are talking about forced displacement or deportation. The Geneva Convention prohibits this , - said Gerasimchuk

She stressed that the whereabouts of some of the children taken out of Ukraine had already been established. international organizations are involved in the search for the rest.

The Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for Children's Rights emphasized that each return of illegally deported children to Ukraine is a small special operation.

Speaking about the children who suffered as a result of the war, Gerasimchuk said that currently 218 children continue to be treated in healthcare institutions for injuries. Most of them are children from 7 to 14 years old.

They received mine-explosive or gunshot wounds. Unfortunately, 14 children had their limbs amputated due to their injuries.
