US denies visas to Russian delegation
The Russian ambassador to the U.S. asks for visas for the Russian delegation after all.
This was reported by CNN.
Russia now holds the presidency of the UN Security Council. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov was due to arrive at the UN Security Council meeting in New York in April. But the US has not yet given permission for Lavrov's plane and the Russian delegation to arrive.
Russia's ambassador to the US, Anatoly Antonov, is already complaining that Washington is dragging its feet on issuing the permits, saying there is no certainty yet and asking not the US to delay it.
It is worth recalling that the Security Council consists of five permanent UN members, including Russia, Britain, France, the US and China, which have veto power, as well as 10 member states on a rotating basis.
The Ukrainian president has previously called for reform of the Security Council "so that a terrorist state and any other state that wants to be a terrorist cannot destroy the world".
