In the Ukrainian State Register there are 61 varieties of cherries, of which 44 are bred in Melitopol.
The Russians continue to rob and appropriate other people's property. Thus, Rospatent has issued the first so-called certificate of "exclusive right" to the Melitopol cherry brand in favour of the occupation administration of the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, in particular the Zaporizhzhya region. The Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent) issued the first certificate of exclusive right to the regional brand. They became the geographical indication "Melitopol cherry", - stated in the message of the Russian department.
Earlier, in 2020, Melitopol cherry received the official title of geographical brand. The application for registration of the geographical indication in December 2019 was filed by the public union "Association of producers of Melitopol cherry" (Ukraine).
Note, Melitopol cherry is an elite class product, its fruits are harvested by hand. Berries are characterised by rich aroma and taste, balanced sugar and acid content, as well as excellent marketable properties. In 100 g of cherries contains 50 kcal, of the 25 vitamins necessary for the human body - in cherries - 10.
A geographical indication is the name of a product that is produced in a specific area. Such indications are, for example, cognac, champagne, feta cheese, etc.
