Russian occupiers have struck Zaporizhzhya, raising the death toll to 13.

This was reported in statements by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the head of the Zaporizhzhya regional military administration, Ivan Fedorov.

Fedorov said that two strikes by guided aerial bombs on residential buildings killed 13 people and injured 18 others, four of whom are in serious condition. The rescue operation is still ongoing and a day of mourning will be declared in Zaporizhzhya on 9 January due to the tragedy.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed condolences to the relatives of the victims and noted the cruelty of Russian air bombs aimed at civilians in the city. "The Russians struck Zaporizhzhya with aerial bombs. This is a deliberate strike on the city," he emphasised.

Zelensky also called on the world to put pressure on Russia for terror and to support the defence of lives in Ukraine. He added that the war could be ended only through force and the world should support Ukraine.

According to Fedorov, among the wounded is a 13-year-old girl who was hospitalised in the hospital. Her condition is assessed as moderately serious.
