Russian troops' plans in Volchansk foiled - AFU General Staff

AFU units continue to carry out combat tasks within the urban area of Volchansk in the northern part of the city.

AFU soldiers have foiled plans by Russian troops in the Kharkiv direction to enter and gain a foothold in the urban area of Volchansk. This was reported by the AFU General Staff on 16 May.

It is noted that since the beginning of offensive actions of the occupants on May 10 in the Kharkiv direction, the Ukrainian Defence Forces have significantly reduced the activity of the Russian Federation troops by decisive actions.

The enemy's plans to maximally penetrate into the depth of the urban area of Volchansk and gain a foothold there have been foiled," the AFU General Staff said.

Since the beginning of the current day, the AFU units continue to perform combat tasks within the urban area of Volchansk in the northern part of the city and keep the enemy under fire control.

The Ukrainian Defence Forces continue to defend the occupied borders to prevent the occupants from advancing deep into our territory.

Since the beginning of the day on 16 May, there have been 23 military clashes, the enemy launched two missile and four air strikes with the use of eight KABs and 48 kamikaze drone strikes, and 564 shellings of Ukrainian troops' positions.

Earlier, Socialportal reported that the head of the Volchansk city military administration, Tamaz Gambarashvili, said that fortifications around Volchansk "were in place, but due to constant shelling it was not easy to erect them".
