Russian spy set up "observation post" in his own garage

SBU

The SBU has unmasked an informant of the Russian security services who collected intelligence on the redeployment of the Defence Forces through the territory of Kirovohrad Region.

The SBU has detained a Russian agent who set up a "surveillance point" in his own garage to monitor the AFU echelons in Kirovohrad Region, the SBU has reported on 12 February. The SBU reported this on 12 February.

The agent tried to find out the approximate number of AFU personnel and military equipment moving by railway towards the eastern front.

In order to keep an eye on the AFU echelons, the agent set up an "observation point" in his own garage, which is located near the railway station, the security service said.

In addition, he went around the area and covertly recorded the locations of the basing of Ukrainian troops under the guise of walking.

SBU officers exposed the attacker and detained him in his own home. The enemy informant turned out to be a local resident who had previously lived in Russia for almost 20 years.

Before the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he came to Ukraine to sell all the property he owned here.

In May 2023, when the man was still in Kirovohrad region, a representative of the Russian security services came to him and offered him cooperation in favour of the occupiers. He was promised "evacuation" to the territory of the Russian Federation.

During searches in the flat of the defendant, mobile phones and computer equipment with evidence of criminal activity were seized.

Investigators of the SBU detained on suspicion under part 3 of article 114-2 of the Criminal code of Ukraine (unauthorised dissemination of information about the direction, movement, movement or placement of weapons, weapons and ammunition in Ukraine, movement, movement or placement of the AFU).

Now he is in custody. The attacker faces up to 12 years in prison.
