Russian Federation attacked Ukraine with almost 300 drones and dozens of missiles: how many were shot down by air defence forces

On the night of 25 May 2025, the Russian Federation launched the largest combined air strike on Ukrainian territory since the beginning of a full-scale war. The attack covered most regions of the country, including Kiev and the Kiev region. Hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles of various types were used. Ukraine's air defences repelled a significant part of enemy targets, but destruction, casualties and numerous casualties were recorded.

Record number of means of defeat: 367 units

As reported by the AFU Air Force, the enemy used 367 means of air attack, including:

• 298 Shahed and other types of attack drones - launched from the territory of Bryansk, Kursk, Orel, Millerovo and Primorsko-Akhtarsk;

• 9 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles from the Kursk region;

• 55 Kh-101 and Kalibr cruise missiles launched from Tu-95 and Tu-160 bombers (from the Saratov region and the Black Sea);

• 1 Kh-22 missile from a Tu-22M3 over the Black Sea;

• 4 Kh-59/69 guided missiles launched from tactical aircraft.

The attack was repelled by air defence forces: aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare and mobile fire groups.

Enemy losses: missiles shot down and drones suppressed

As of 9:00 a.m. 25 May:

• 45 Kh-101 and Kalibr cruise missiles were shot down;

• Destroyed 266 strike drones, of which:

  • 139 destroyed by firepower;

  • 127 were suppressed by REB means;

• 2 Kh-59/69 missiles were destroyed (the other missiles were localised).

Consequences in the regions: destruction, dead and wounded

Kiev

In the capital, damage and fires were recorded in three districts:

• Goloseevsky district - a dormitory was damaged, fire was eliminated, UAV debris falls were recorded;

• Dniprovsky district - the first floor of a private house was destroyed;

• Shevchenko district - a business centre was damaged.

As of this morning, 11 people aged from 18 to 62 were injured.

Kiev region

According to the Kyiv Regional Military Administration and the State Emergency Situations Service, four people were confirmed dead, 16 were injured. The main damages were recorded in:

• Obukhiv district (village Dolyna) - fire in two temporary structures, 2 dead;

• Fastovskiy rayon (Marhalovka village) - 1 dead, 8 injured, 3 houses destroyed, fires in two houses continue;

• Buchansky rayon (Makarov settlement) - 1 dead, 2 injured;

• Bilotserkivskyi district - 5 injured, including 2 children, one man received shrapnel wounds to the face.

Work on liquidation of consequences continues in Brovarsky, Bilotserkivskyi, Buchanskyi, Obukhivskyi districts. Rescuers, investigative teams and medical services are working on the ground.

Means of defeat of the Russian Federation were recorded in 22 locations, in 15 of them - the fall of downed objects. In addition to Kiev and Kiev region, strikes and explosions this night were heard in Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Odessa, Chernihiv, Sumy, Zaporizhzhya and Ternopil regions. An air alert is still in place in a number of regions.
