The SBU has detained a Russian agent in Donetsk Region who was going to blow himself up in case of "failure".

The SBU counterintelligence detained an FSB informant who kept a live grenade at home, which he planned to detonate if he was exposed. This was reported by the SBU on 26 January.

According to the investigation, the attacker was scouting the locations where AFU units were stationed near Kramatorsk.

The SBU timely exposed the Russian informer, documented his criminal actions and detained him. This disrupted the enemy's plans to prepare a series of air attacks on AFU military facilities.

As the investigation established, the enemy accomplice turned out to be a resident of Kramatorsk. In August 2023, he met on one of the dating sites with a Russian woman who co-operates with the FSB. On her instructions, the man collected information about military facilities "needed" by the enemy.

It was established that the enemy informant kept a live grenade in the wardrobe of his house in order to blow himself up in case of exposure," the special service said.

Investigators of the SBU informed him of suspicion under part 3 of article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (unauthorised dissemination of information about the movement or deployment of the AFU, committed under martial law).

The issue of additional qualification of criminal actions of the detainee is being resolved. Now the perpetrator is in custody. He faces 12 years of imprisonment.
