Reuters: US intelligence warns of Putin's ambition to take over Ukraine and go further

Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin is still aiming at a full takeover of Ukraine and regaining control over part of Europe, despite Moscow's diplomatic signals of readiness for negotiations. This was reported by Reuters.

According to the agency, this is the conclusion reached by US intelligence services. Six Reuters sources say that Putin's strategic goals remain unchanged from the start of a full-scale war in 2022.

The US intelligence largely coincides with the conclusions of European leaders and intelligence agencies. They believe that the Kremlin seeks not only to subdue Ukraine, but also to spread its influence over the former Soviet Union and NATO countries. Mike Quigley, a member of the US House of Representatives, said that Poland and the Baltic States, which see themselves as the first possible targets, are convinced of this.

Against this background, warnings about Russia's preparations for a larger confrontation are becoming more frequent in Europe. In particular, the Dutch Ministry of Defence has stated that Moscow is shifting its economy to military rails, increasing weapons production and mobilisation resources. According to analysts, the Kremlin has already started a hidden phase of preparation for a possible clash with NATO in the perspective until 2030.
