The ringleader of the Russian private military company Vagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin, has published his first commentary since fleeing to Belarus after the failed mutiny.

In his 11-minute audio recording, he claimed that the Russian Defence Ministry was planning to disband Wagner on 1 July. This, he said, was the reason for the so-called Justice March. That is, "to demonstrate in protest, not to overthrow the government in the country".

Prigozhin also claimed that 30 Wagnerians were killed when Russian troops shelled a mercenary camp, which allegedly preceded his démarche. It should be noted that many military experts called the shelling of the camp a staged attack.

He repeated his thesis that he stopped the march when it became clear that "Russian blood would be shed". And he also confirmed that Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko had proposed "ways for the PMK to continue its activities in a legal jurisdiction". ISW explained what mediation between Prigozhin and the Kremlin would give Lukashenko.

During the mutiny, the Wagnerians reportedly shot down several Russian Defence Ministry planes and helicopters, killing between 13 and 20 pilots.

Prigozhin has demanded the resignation of Russian Defence Minister Shoigu. According to media reports, he has blocked Prigozhin's contacts with Vladimir Putin. Reports first emerged about who would replace Shoigu. For now, however, it appears that Shoigu may retain his post.

The case against Prigozhin in Russia will be closed and he will "go to Belarus"
