- Political views may affect stress and sleep quality: new study

Political views can influence not only our beliefs but also physiological aspects such as stress levels and sleep quality.
This is the conclusion reached by scientists from the University of Arizona, USA.
The results of the study were published in the journal Sleep Health.
The study involved 922 adults in Arizona, with an average age of about 42 years.
Participants were asked about sleep problems over the past 30 days and which political party they associated themselves with - Democrats, Republicans or Independents.
Changes in their lives since the COVID-19 pandemic were also taken into account, including age, gender, race, and health status.
Results showed that people who identified as Democrats or independents reported worse sleep quality compared to Republicans.
These groups also felt more strongly about changes in their lives and sleep schedules with the onset of the pandemic.
Supporters of the political left were more likely to experience stresses caused by the coronavirus , such as health problems, economic uncertainty, and socialupheaval . In contrast, Republicans who were less worried about the effects of the pandemic and were relaxed about precautions may have experienced less stress and consequently slept better.
However, the study has its limitations.
Researchers relied on data provided by the participants themselves, which can lead to subjective or inaccurate conclusions. In addition, it remains unclear whether there is a direct link between political views and sleep quality, or whether these results are due to other personality and lifestyle characteristics inherent in certain ideologies.
