Swimming all day to save themselves: Russian prisoner on the bombing of the Kakhovka hydropower plant
After the bombing of the Kakhovska hydro-electric power station, the occupiers continue to pretend that "this is the plan". They do not evacuate civilians, leaving people to die and also abandoning their military. Moreover, the occupiers are threatened with being shot if they try to save their lives.
Yesterday, the Ukrainian military captured one of the Russian invaders, who had literally sailed in from Novaya Kakhovka. A video of the interrogation of the captive surfaced on the net, he complaining about his command.
According to the occupant, he arrived in the Novaya Kakhovka area in late May 2023 and was stationed at observation posts. He did not know about the plans to blow up the reservoir. He says that he heard an explosion around 2 a.m. After which the occupiers contacted their commanders.
They asked for information, but they did not tell us anything specific. They told us to mind our own business, stay there and do nothing," says the occupant.
When the water got closer, the Russian commanders kept on assuring us that all was well and refused to evacuate the military. Otherwise, an attempt to escape was regarded as desertion and was threatened with execution.
When the water level became dangerous, the Russians built rafts from improvised materials and swam towards Ukrainian-controlled territory. The raft drifted into the bushes, where they were discovered by the Ukrainian military.
