In parallel with the negotiation process, the Russians are carrying out terrorist attacks against civilians.
Russia has not demonstrated any real intention to stop the war against Ukraine, despite its public statements about its alleged readiness for peace and diplomacy. In practice, the army of the aggressor country continues massive attacks on civilian infrastructure and civilians. This was stated by German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius in an interview with the RND.
According to him, Russia's actions have no military logic and are openly terrorist in nature.
The head of the German defence ministry stressed that at the moment he sees no signs of the Kremlin's readiness for a ceasefire. According to Pistorius, Russia continues to strike peaceful towns and civilians in Ukraine in parallel with talks about negotiations.
The minister also noted that US President Donald Trump has managed to give momentum to the peace process. However, despite this, there are still no signals of Moscow's serious interest in peace.
We have to recognise that the US President has revived the peace talks. But I still don't see any signs that Russia really wants peace. During the Abu Dhabi talks, Putin is bombing Ukraine with an intensity that has hardly been seen before in this war. This is no longer about military action. It is about terror directed solely against civilians - in winter, in freezing temperatures of minus 20 degrees Celsius," Pistorius said.
According to the German defence minister, Vladimir Putin continues to adhere to maximalist demands and shows no willingness to compromise. Pistorius also expressed serious doubts about the sincerity of Moscow's statements about a possible pause in strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
If Putin was really serious about the Abu Dhabi talks, he wouldn't have to be asked to do anything. He would have stopped the strikes not only on Kiev because of the severe cold weather, but on the entire country. I have great doubts that Moscow takes this pause in attacks seriously in any way," he emphasised.
In Pistorius's opinion, the Kremlin's current actions show that Russia is still seeking not peace but a de facto capitulation of Ukraine.
