Russian businessman Mikhail Fridman is ready to part with $ 1 billion, if only the sanctions against him were lifted.

Hundreds of Russian businessmen and oligarchs were targeted by Western sanctions in March, shortly after the start of the Russian invasion, for financial or political support of Vladimir Putin.

Mikhail Fridman, owner of Alfa-Bank, one of Russia's largest private financial institutions, is ready to transfer $1 billion of his personal wealth to Alfa-Bank Ukraine. It is reported by the Wall Street Journal.

Friedman's proposal is far from the only one of its kind. Many blacklisted Russian entrepreneurs, as well as entire banks and companies, are secretly offering such deals to the authorities in the West, the WSJ says.

Friedman himself denies making such an offer, but Britain has already responded to the WSJ information.

He and his business partners Petr Aven and German Khan are on the EU and UK sanctions lists, but have so far avoided US sanctions. At the same time, Alfa-Bank is blacklisted by the US Treasury.

The UK Foreign Office said it does not condone sanctions evasion.
