European politicians are looking for ways to bring Western countries more cohesion against the backdrop of the Russian threat.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said during a London summit on Ukraine that the West is under the "threat of a split" and countries need to "build bridges" to avoid the worst scenario. This is reported by Sky News.

In particular, she noted that Italy and the UK can play a major role in the issue of strengthening alliances.

I think it is very, very important that we avoid the risk of splitting the West. I think on this issue, the UK and Italy can play an important role in building bridges," she said in welcoming him.

Meloni added that if the West were to divide, it would "make us all weaker".

A summit on Ukraine is taking place in London today. Leaders from a number of European countries are attending the event. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa are attending the meeting. The summit was initiated by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

The meeting of the European leaders is taking place against the background of the failed talks between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump.
