The French president will visit Ukraine in February to finalise a bilateral security agreement.

French President Emmanuel Macron said on Tuesday 16 January that he would travel to Ukraine in February to finalise a bilateral agreement on security guarantees under which Ukraine would be supplied with more advanced weaponry, including long-range cruise missiles. This was reported by REUTERS.

Macron also said that about 40 SCALP long-range missiles will be delivered to Ukraine in the coming weeks.

We are going to deliver a lot more equipment and help Ukraine with what it needs to defend its skies. I myself will go to Ukraine in February and finalise these texts," Macron told a news conference.

France has already delivered about 50 SCALP missiles with a range of about 250 kilometres, three times Ukraine's existing missile capacity.

Macron added that in the coming weeks, Europeans will step up their support for Ukraine so that it can continue to defend itself against Russia, "because Moscow cannot be allowed to defeat Ukraine, otherwise Europe's security will be jeopardised."
