Corruption in Ukraine to be equated with state treason

Treason shall be punished by imprisonment for a term of twelve to fifteen years with or without confiscation of property.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has proposed that parliament equate corruption with high treason for the wartime period. He said this in an interview with journalist Nataliya Moseychuk, which was also broadcast by the presidential office.

Such an instrument against corrupt officials cannot operate on a permanent basis in a democratic state, but for the period of war it will be very practical," the Ukrainian leader said.

According to Zelenskyy, such an equation will be a very serious tool, "so that they do not even think.

This, if there is evidence, a person should be behind bars, - said Zelensky.

At the same time, he noted that MPs will vote for such a law and he does not know whether they will support his proposal. The president assured that no one would "pressure" the MPs and they would make the decision to vote independently.

Otherwise, we will not be in the European Union, we will not be part of the civilised world. We must introduce systemic things," he stressed.

When asked whether he was ready to start the fight against corruption with his team, the president said: "I don't have my own or not my own. There is an honest person or a dishonest person. If there is evidence that a person is dishonest, I fire such people. I don't see that as an issue with me today. I don't have such internal questions. I am focused on other things. Therefore, I am calm."

We would like to note that treason in Ukraine is punishable by imprisonment for twelve to fifteen years with or without confiscation of property.
