More than 18% of Ukrainians see March 8 as an outdated Soviet holiday

The number of Ukrainians who believe that March 8 is International Women's Day has decreased by 10%, while the number of citizens who believe that March 8 is an outdated Soviet holiday has increased by 8%.



Such data was obtained by sociologists of the Active Group company on March 4, 2023 using SunFlower Sociology online panel.

Sociologists asked Ukrainians "What is the date for March 8 for them?" and got the following answers: 36.2% of Ukrainians responded that it is the International Women's Day, and 22.5% of respondents considered it an occasion to congratulate women, 21% - a celebration of spring.

As noted, last year 46.8% considered March 8 to be the International Women's Day, which is 10% more.

The number of people who believe that March 8 is an outdated Soviet holiday has increased, 18.4% of respondents said so, while in 2022 there were 10.2% of such respondents. 15.5% consider it a day of struggle of women for their rights, 10.7% do not think that this day is different from others, 9.8% just called March 8 a day off. 1.2% of respondents did not answer.

Answering the question "How do you celebrate March 8?" 45.2% of respondents said that they congratulate women because they want to (last year there were 60.3% of such Ukrainians), while 11% congratulate women because it is the right thing to do in their environment. And only 1.2% of respondents pay attention to women's rights - they attend relevant events, disseminate information, etc.

Respondents were also asked whether women and men in Ukraine truly have equal rights. 45.7% of those surveyed said they did, compared to 56.5% last year.

The survey was carried out using a self-completion method by Ukrainians aged 18 and over. Sample: 600 questionnaires (representative by age, gender and region of Ukraine).
