Italian PM calls urgent summit with US and EU on Ukraine

The summit is needed to discuss the big challenges, starting with the war in Ukraine, and those that the West will have to address in the future.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has announced her intention to initiate an urgent meeting involving the United States, the European Union and partners, Reuters has reported.
The idea to hold the summit emerged after a heated discussion between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy during their talks at the White House on 28 February.
Meloni emphasised that the main goal of the meeting was to work out joint solutions to overcome current global challenges, including the situation in Ukraine.
Every division in the West weakens us all and benefits those who would like to see our civilisation decline," Meloni said.
The meeting between Zelensky and Trump took place in Washington on 28 February. The Ukrainian President arrived at the White House to sign an agreement on rare earth metals and minerals, but the discussion immediately began with a conflict that took place in front of the press. Trump and Vance openly attacked Zelensky and accused Ukraine of continuing the war.
After the incident, the Ukrainian president held telephone talks with Emmanuel Macron, the French president, and Mark Rutte, the NATO secretary general.
In turn, Macron, commenting on the tension between the two leaders, said that Russia was responsible for starting the conflict. He emphasised that the international community, including the USA, Europe, Canada, Japan and other countries, did the right thing by supporting Ukraine and imposing sanctions against Russia three years ago, continuing to follow this line.
