- In the temporarily occupied territory of Zaporizhzhya region, a 68-year-old woman was sentenced to 11 years for donating to the AFU

A 68-year-old woman in the temporarily occupied part of Zaporizhzhya region - in the village of Plodorodnoye in Melitopol district - was sentenced to 11 years in prison after transferring funds to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the independent publication ASTRA reported on the verdict on 10 March.
What the woman was convicted for
According to the ASTRA newspaper, the so-called court set up by the Russian authorities on the occupied territory has found the woman guilty under the article on "high treason".
According to the version of the Russian "investigation", in July 2023, she used the mobile application of a Ukrainian bank and transferred money from her account.
"Investigative bodies" claim that the transfer was made to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The amount of the transfer, according to the case materials, was 1,240 rubles - that's about 500 hryvnias.
As a result, the woman was sentenced to 11 years of imprisonment in a colony of general regime.
What is known about the convict
According to the publication, the woman was born in 1957 and lived in the village of Plodorodnoye Melitopol district of Melitopol district of Zaporizhzhya region, which is in the temporarily occupied territory.
The publication also says that after the occupation of the region she received Russian citizenship.
Astra writes that the press release of the occupation "court" claims that the woman admitted guilt and repented, but there is no independent confirmation of these statements.
Repression in the occupied territories
Similar processes are taking place in other settlements of the occupied part of Zaporizhzhya region. For example, earlier the occupation court sentenced a 69-year-old resident of Tokmak to 15 years in prison for transferring funds to the AFU, and a resident of one of the villages in the region to 14 years in prison on charges of "high treason".
Ukrainian human rights organisations note that such trials are often held in closed mode and the defendants may be subjected to pressure.
What is known about the village of Plodorodnoye
The village of Plodorodnoye is located in Melitopol district of Zaporizhzhya region.
The administrative centre of the district, the city of Melitopol, was captured by Russian troops on 1 March 2022, shortly after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Since then, a significant part of the district has remained under Russian occupation.
Following the seizure of the territory, Russia established administrations and judicial bodies under its control there, which try criminal cases under Russian law.
