Hungarian PM Orban said the EU would revisit the issue in 2024 "after appropriate preparations".

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has blocked the allocation of 50bn euros in EU aid to Ukraine. He reported about it in the social network X.

The outcome of the night shift: veto on additional money to Ukraine, veto on the revision of the multi-annual budget (MFF). We will return to this issue next year at the EU summit after appropriate preparations," he wrote.

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said that EU leaders had decided to return to discuss the issue in January.

Rutte said that 26 EU countries had agreed to provide Ukraine with money from the EU budget until 2027, but Hungary was against this decision, which requires a unanimous decision.

We still have time, Ukraine will not be left without money in the next few weeks," he said.

He added that another summit would be held to reach an agreement.

Earlier, the European Commission proposed to allocate 50bn euros to Ukraine for the next five years. Hungary is ready to lift its veto on Ukraine's financing if the EU unfreezes the €30bn earmarked for Budapest.
