Summer care from a celebrity beautician: secrets of glowing skin from Joanna Czech
Joanna Czech is one of the most famous beauticians in the world, with almost 40 years of experience and an army of celebrity clients: Jennifer Aniston, Kim Kardashian, Hailey Bieber and many others. Joanna shares her summer beauty ritual, a simple but effective way to keep skin glowing and healthy even in the heat.
Joanna's tips are published by Elle.
Morning:
Summer is a time of special attention to skin protection. Czech recommends starting the day with a light exfoliation: a dry brush and a gentle scrub gently renews the skin, helping to desensitise it. Next, a toner to control pH and a light day cream are a must. But most importantly, sunscreen should be applied 15-30 minutes before going outdoors. Cheh advises paying special attention to the neck, arms, ears and upper chest - these areas react faster to the sun.
For those prone to pigmentation, Joanna recommends a cream with peptides to protect the skin from spots caused by heat and sun.
Evening:
The evening ritual is a double cleansing. First an oil to remove sunscreen, then a gel wash. After cleansing, the skin needs to restore the pH balance, so the beautician uses special toners with a level of 5.5. For cell renewal in summer, Cech recommends using a milder form of vitamin A - retinyl: it accelerates cell renewal and keeps the skin young. A thick face and body moisturiser that locks in moisture completes the treatment.
After the sun and when travelling:
If you've been swimming in the sea or pool, Cech recommends always having wet face wipes with rosemary extract on hand to soothe irritation from salt and chlorine. Cooling masks and serums with soothing ingredients will also work - they reduce swelling and soothe inflammation.
When travelling, Joanna advises not forgetting vitamin C to protect against pollution and a thick cream to stay hydrated during flights.
Advice from an expert:
In summer, it's better to refuse aggressive procedures and not get carried away with complex multi-layered care regimens - five steps are enough.
