Cooking scrambled eggs may seem simple, but in fact it's a lot more complicated than it first appears.
Crack an egg into a frying pan and flip it over; what could be easier? It is, but there are nuances... We'll cover both the basics of frying eggs and a few unique options that will surprise everyone.
So, the basics
You'll need:
- Fresh eggs
- Frying pan
- Spatula
- Salt
- Pepper
- Butter or butter
Instructions:
Preheat the frying pan: Start by preheating the frying pan over medium-high heat. Add a tablespoon of oil or butter to the pan and let it melt to cover the whole pan.
Crack the egg: Crack a fresh egg into a bowl. This step is optional, but it ensures that no shell pieces get into the fried egg.
Prepare the egg: Carefully transfer the egg from the bowl to the frying pan. Leave it to cook for a few minutes until the white is thoroughly cooked but the yolk remains liquid.
Season the egg: Sprinkle salt and pepper over the egg for basic seasoning. You can get creative with the seasoning - try adding smoked paprika or even hot sauce!
Serve: If you prefer your eggs "by eye", gently flip the egg over and cook for another 20-30 seconds. Carefully slide a spatula under the egg, remove it from the pan and serve immediately.
And here's a video to make it clear. It's not very clear, but it's funny. The author tried very hard, but he's pawing at it.
The challenge with the asterisk*
Now that we've sorted out the BASE, it's time to explore some egg frying know-how and surprise everyone with your culinary prowess.
Cloud Egg
This is an Instagram-worthy egg. For the perfect photo (and breakfast), separate the egg white from the yolk, whip the egg white into a fluffy meringue, and then bake (in the oven) this meringue with the yolk in the centre.
How to make it
- Separate the egg white from the yolk, being careful not to break the yolk.
- Beat the egg whites until peaks form.
- Place the beaten egg whites on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, creating a nest for the egg yolk.
- Bake at 180 degrees centigrade for 3 minutes.
- Remove from the oven, carefully place the yolk in the centre and bake for another 3 minutes.
Voila! Cloudy eggs.

Eggs in a basket
How to make it
- In this recipe, an egg is fried right in the centre of a slice of bread.
- Cut a hole in the centre of the slice of bread using a biscuit cutter or the rim of a glass.
- Place the bread in a greased frying pan over medium heat.
- Crack an egg into the hole in the bread.
- Cook until the egg sinks to one side, then flip and cook the other.
- Season to taste and serve hot.
OUCH! And we even have a video tutorial. Socзortal has prepared the most accessible fried egg-on-toast recipe.
Egg and pesto
This trend has exploded on social media thanks to its rich flavour and simplicity.
How to make it:
- Heat a spoonful of pesto in a frying pan.
- Crack the egg straight into the sizzling pesto and cook until desired.
- The egg will absorb the pesto's flavour, giving a plain fried egg a delicious appearance.

These are just a few examples of turning a simple fried egg into a fantastic dish.
Remember, if you can fry an egg, you can do anything. So feel free to mix and match spices, sauces and cooking methods.
