Even in the midst of a full-scale war, Ukraine continues to ensure the work of its most remote scientific corner.

In 1996, the United Kingdom handed over its Faraday Antarctic station to Ukraine. The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the National Antarctic Research Centre told about the history and modernity of the Antarctic station.

on 6 February 1996, we received from Great Britain the Faraday Antarctic Station, which is now called Akademik Vernadskyy," the report says.

Since then Ukraine has become one of the few Antarctic countries, and our scientists participate in global research of the planet.

We are proud that even in conditions of a full-scale war (when a number of programmes had to be cut, many polar explorers went to fight at the front, and the office of NASC was badly damaged by a Russian missile) Ukraine continues to ensure the work of its most remote scientific corner, - said Ukrainian polar explorers.

Why Ukraine got the British station, what is the value of research at Vernadsky and what Ukrainian scientists are studying there now, see the infographic below.
