The territory under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Kursk Region is increasing almost daily. on 20 August, Oleksandr Syrskyy said that the Ukrainian military controlled 93 settlements or 1,263 square kilometres of Kursk Region.

When it comes to the operation of the AFU on the territory of the Russian Federation, the town of Suja most often comes to mind. This is not surprising, as Suja is a district centre with a population of just over 5,000 people before the start of the war.

The Ukrainian military entered Suja on 6 August and continues to control it. Many journalists have already visited the town to show what is happening there now.

Radio Liberty filmed the destruction and sporadic fires in remote areas or suburbs of Suja. Reconnaissance UAVs and FPV drones occasionally fly over Suja. Civilians remain in the city to receive humanitarian aid. The military commandant's office established in the Kursk region has provided the townspeople with food, bottled water, and connected technical water, and it has also provided medical assistance.

The residents of Suja said that the war began for them only on 6 August. They complain about the authorities who "abandoned" them and "did not warn them about the events". For the same reason, they stayed in the town. The people who left Suja mostly had cars.

In addition to Ukrainian media, journalists from the Washington Post visited Suja. They note that the Ukrainian military treats Russian civilians well, unlike the Russian army in the temporarily occupied settlements of Ukraine.

The Washington Post journalists, accompanied by the Ukrainian military, saw no evidence that the Ukrainian military had looted or attacked civilians. A dozen Russian civilians interviewed by The Post in Suja said they were treated well and were unaware of the residents killed, but they still want their town returned to Russian control," the report said.

The townspeople had previously paid no attention to the presence of the Russian military in the Kursk region, which continued to shell the territory of Ukraine.

Before that, they were just shooting, shooting and shooting, so slowly. But from 5 to 6 the war started," a resident of Suzhi told journalists.

It should be noted that about 100 people remain in the city now. Many of them are pensioners and lonely people, people with disabilities, and children.

Also, Suja remains intact houses - damaged by bombs and shelling buildings only in the city centre. These are mainly administrative buildings. Despite this, local residents are in no hurry to leave their basements. The city looks as if life has stopped there.

Earlier Socialportal reported that the residents of Suja, addressing the Ukrainian military, speaking in pure Ukrainian. Some locals are asking for evacuation so the AFU can establish a humanitarian corridor. However, there has been no action from the Russian side, and there are no plans to evacuate the residents of Kursk Region to the territory of Ukraine.
