Head of CIA secretly visited Ukraine

This is reported by CNN, citing two sources.

The visit took place in early October. CIA Director William Burns traveled to Kyiv to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other Ukrainian officials.

A US official told CNN:

While there, he reaffirmed the US commitment to support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression, including continuous intelligence sharing.

Officials declined to elaborate on the details of the trip.

CNN believes that the trip could take place against the backdrop of US concern about the threat of the use of nuclear weapons by Russia. Burns and other US officials have publicly said they see no evidence that Moscow is actively preparing for such a move. But US officials familiar with the intelligence warn that the risk of a nuclear weapon being used may be the highest since the Russian invasion in February.
